Uzbekistan

Historical cities and the magic of the Silk Road

From modern travel to ancient culture

Uzbekistan was the third country we visited with our own campervan in Central Asia. After rugged Tajikistan, this was a big contrast: Uzbekistan is more modern, has many large cities and is well equipped for tourism. The country is best known for the beautifully restored cities along the Old Silk Road, where history and culture are visible everywhere.

Information about Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is known for its impressive cities along the Old Silk Road, rich in history, mosaics and Islamic architecture. From iconic places like Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva to vast desert landscapes and green oases, the country is surprisingly versatile. In combination with the modern infrastructure, good facilities for travelers and the hospitable population, Uzbekistan is an accessible and culturally rich country to travel through.

If you plan to stay longer, you may need to apply for a visa or leave the country and re-enter. Because entry rules vary by nationality and may change, it is always a good idea to check the latest requirements before traveling.
